In this video I’m brushing the Zen word NYOZE 如是, which can be translated as “like it is”. We say all the time: “it is what it is”. But in Zen, NYOZE is acceptance or reconciliation with the reality of your life. It is to be aware of your true “self”. Who you are, in this moment, cannot be changed, you are what you are.
We live our lives unhappy with what we got, constantly wanting to change the moment into something else. We worry about the past, and the future. Truth is neither of those things exist, and NYOZE is telling us to accept the situation for what it is. There is nothing else.
